They gobble readily and are not jaded by past turkey hunter efforts<\/a>, says Jason Hardin, TPWD&#8217;s Wild Turkey Program Leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fall Turkey Season<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fall season runs alongside deer season, from October through January or February depending on where you&#8217;re hunting. The big advantage? You can shoot either gobblers or bearded hens in most counties, which makes it perfect if you&#8217;re planning a combo deer and turkey trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s when fall season runs:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>North Zone<\/strong>: Oct. 31, 2026 \u2013 Jan. 3, 2027<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>South Zone<\/strong>: Oct. 31, 2026 \u2013 Jan. 17, 2027<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Select South Counties<\/strong>: Oct. 31, 2026 \u2013 Feb. 21, 2027 (the longest season)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bowhunters get first crack with the&nbsp;<strong>archery-only season<\/strong>&nbsp;running statewide from Sept. 26 \u2013 Oct. 30, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Youth get special opportunities<\/strong>&nbsp;with their own seasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>North Zone<\/strong>: Oct. 23-25, 2026 and Jan. 4-17, 2027<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>South Zone<\/strong>: Oct. 23-25, 2026 and Jan. 18-31, 2027<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spring Turkey Season<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what most people think of when they hear &#8220;turkey hunting.&#8221; You&#8217;re targeting gobblers during breeding season when they&#8217;re fired up, vocal, and responding to calls. With TPWD&#8217;s positive population outlook for 2026, this could be one of the better spring seasons in recent memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>South Zone<\/strong>&nbsp;(March 13 \u2013 April 25, 2027): Opens first and covers prime Rio Grande turkey country. Perfect timing if you&#8217;re from up north and want to hunt before your home state opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>North Zone<\/strong>&nbsp;(March 27 \u2013 May 9, 2027): Starts a bit later but runs into early May. This zone includes some fantastic Hill Country and Edwards Plateau habitat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>East Zone<\/strong>&nbsp;(April 21 \u2013 May 13, 2027): The most restrictive season, targeting Eastern turkeys only.&nbsp;<strong>Pay attention here<\/strong>: 1-gobbler limit, gobblers only (no bearded hens), and you can&#8217;t hunt over bait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>One-Turkey Counties<\/strong>&nbsp;(March 31 \u2013 April 29, 2027): These counties are still rebuilding their turkey populations, so there&#8217;s a 1-gobbler limit per county. That includes Bastrop, Caldwell, Colorado, Fayette, Jackson, Lavaca, Lee, Matagorda, Milam, and Wharton counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a pro tip:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/texasfarmbureau.org\/spring-turkey-season-prospects-look-good-in-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The middle and later portions of the season usually have fewer hunters in the woods<\/a>.
