Nestled in the northwestern mountains of Maine, the Jackman Moose River Valley area sits against the Quebec Border and is renowned for housing some of the largest bucks in the state. Approximately one in every five bucks tagged each year weights over 200 pounds when field dressed. These bucks have adapted to survive the harsh winters of the region. While deer densities in the Big Woods are lower compared to farm country or suburban areas, the deer population is still stronger than much of northern Maine. The limited numbers are compensated by the exceptional quality of the hunting experience, with encounters with other hunters being a rare sight.
