Avoyelles, 12,983 Acres of Public Hunting Land for Whitetail Deer, Turkey, Duck, Exotics – Avoyelles, Louisiana

This 12,983 – acre WMA lies within the Red River alluvial floodplain and is subject to periodic backwater flooding. This land is flat and there is a poor system of drainage. The land’s forest cover is entirely bottom-land hardwood species such as willow, cypress, bitter pecan, swamp privet, water elm, over cup oak, cottonwood, sycamore, honey locust, and hack-berry. The hunting animals available at Grassy Lake WMA include: swamp rabbit, white-tailed deer, squirrel, turkey, woodcock, and waterfowl. There are also two primitive camping areas on this property.
