info

Kentucky deer hunting season begins September-January for the archery hunter, and November 10th-25th for modern gun, in most Kentucky deer zones. A hunter may harvest four deer with a statewide deer permit, and to harvest more than four deer, an additional deer permit is needed. Kentucky whitetail hunts will provide a positive hunting experience for any sportsman. There is roughly 900,000 whitetails, with typically seven hunters per square mile, providing an admirable hunting range for whitetail deer in the Bluegrass state.

Elk is an animal that is native to Kentucky. The present elk herd in the state, is considered a wild herd, where 1,550 wild elk were captured out of state. The herd was then released in southeast regions of Kentucky in December of 1997 and March 2002. Kentucky elk hunting zones covers sixteen counties in the southeast areas of the state, with a population of approximately 10,000 head of elk. Kentucky also contains the largest elk species of any state, east of the Mississippi River. In fact, the first elk hunt was operated in 2001. Since then, elk hunting in Kentucky has been on the rise, with the number of permits growing since 2004. The elk season for archery and crossbow begins September 14th-27th, and for firearm, September 28th-October 2nd.

Duck hunting in Kentucky is a very popular sport. The state provides abundant food sources and croplands for the birds. Most waterfowl are known to migrate throughout the seasons, but in Kentucky, the birds remain as resident birds. In the fall months, wood ducks and teal are abundant in the state. Duck season in Kentucky begins November 22-25 and December 3rd- January 27th. In order to hunt ducks, a hunter must complete a HIP Migratory Bird Survey before hunting ducks.

Kentucky turkey hunting offers timber hunting near the east, with farm pastures in the middle of the state. Kentucky hunting leases do provide almost ninety five percent of the state, where turkeys are located. However, there is a dominant amount of public land where turkeys can be hunted. This includes land in between lakes, and the Daniel Boone National Forest. The general turkey hunting season begins with, twenty-three days beginning on the Saturday closes to April 15th. The hours to shoot a turkey in Kentucky, must be done thirty min. before sunrise and thirty min. after sunset.

Hunting land for sale in Kentucky might be the sportsmans best advantage when hog hunting. Kentucky does have a variety of wild boar roaming throughout the state, mainly in the south central areas. However, if you are looking into land for lease, there is hardly any restrictions, or bag limits, for a adventurous wild boar hunt. A resident license is $20.00 per year, or $7.00 for one day. A non-resident license is $130.00 per year, or $40.00 for five days. On public land, the best Kentucky hog hunting, is known to take place within the Daniel Boone National Forest.
